Distributor Littlebit Technology and the data platform plugilo are working on a solution to improve product data. The solution uses an AI-supported central database in which data is collected, standardized, and normalized.
With plugilo, product data from different sources and in various formats is automatically stored in a central database.
Littlebit Technology, a distributor based in Hünenberg, Switzerland, specializing in ICT products and IT components, has launched a cooperation with plugilo to improve the quality of product data. The collaboration aims to increase the efficiency of automated processes in the IT trade, which are often impaired by incomplete manufacturer data.
Jochen Bless, COO at Littlebit, describes the challenge: “Product data is like a surface that looks smooth at first glance. But as soon as you run your hand over it, the bumps and irregularities immediately become apparent.”
The distributor automates many processes based on this product data. Incorrect or incomplete manufacturer information therefore complicates automated workflows and requires manual rework, which causes additional time and costs. Efficient processes are especially crucial in IT distribution. That is why Littlebit is working with plugilo.
Up-to-date product data and dynamic storage
Michael Urban, who joined plugilo in summer 2024, identifies two main causes of the data quality problem: the different approaches manufacturers take to maintaining data, and the static storage of product data in shop and ERP systems, which quickly becomes outdated.
plugilo’s platform is designed to solve this. It collects, standardizes, and normalizes product data from various sources, such as distributors and manufacturers, and in different formats (e.g. CSV, API, PDF), and stores it in a central database. This process is AI-supported and highly automated. The data records are then submitted to manufacturers for review, modification, and certification, allowing them to retain control over their data. According to Bless, half of Littlebit’s manufacturer partners that were contacted have already agreed to participate.
To avoid static data, plugilo has developed so-called “cards,” a type of container that carries product data and can update itself in real time whenever the master database changes. Customers of the Littlebit online shop can load and use these data cards via a plugilo connector. If product information or images change, the cards update automatically.
